45 Minutes or Less, Mixed Media on Paper, 2013.

The shortest recorded war in history took place on 27 August 1896, between the British Empire and the Sultanate of Zanzibar. It was Britains action against the new Sultan who replaced a ruler far more sympathetic to the British, the war lasted for around 40 mins (maximum 45 depending on which ships logbook you believe). The British surrounded the palace with war ships and soldiers and unleashed a barrage of attacks until the palace barely stood, the Sultan escaped into exile leaving his subjects to carry on the defence of his rule.

I found out that the city of Tuscaloosa in the great state of Alabama is named after the Native American Chief Tuskaloosa, who was defeated by the Hernando De Soto a Spanish Conquistador at the battle of Mabila. In the battle around 2,500 natives died, around 200 Spanish and 400 hogs (?). It is one of America's bloodiest battles outside of the Civil War. All this primarily because he didn't want to give up a number of men and women as slaves....
